Murray's logs credit her and Alan with the "runes" that got everyone excited, and record how she fused alien tech with human hardware to make her own, with 49 out of 50 failing. She joined the expedition beyond the rift. Her journal page by the Theta Splice calls the machine an atrocity she refuses to use as intended, and begs whoever finds it to close the rift: the creatures are highly intelligent, have a society, and "we don't have the right to sacrifice their world for our own". In the e-mail where Murray orders everyone out of the base, he does not know where Emily and Alan are.
