Time Machine Activationactivation code handles

The game picks one of 5 fixed variants. Find yours below.

Also called: time machine code · activation code

What you see

In the activation room of the Temporal Research Centre's main hall, the time machine has two handles, left and right, and one hook-only chain. A code screen shows a number and a letter. The code tells you where to set the two handles.

How it works

  1. The machine needs power first. While it has none, a missing-power screen shows instead.
  2. The code screen shows one of five codes: 1E, 2D, 3B, 4A, 5C.
  3. The number sets the left handle: number minus 1. The letter sets the right handle: A = 0, B = 1, C = 2, D = 3, E = 4.
  4. With both handles set, the Hook Gun player pulls the chain all the way and holds it. Only the Hook Gun can pull it.

The game picks the code at random each time. It never picks the same code twice in a row.

Handle values count each handle's five positions from its lowest position (0) to its highest (4), as the game files store them. We have not confirmed whether or how the positions are marked in the room.

Solution

Show hint

Read the code as two parts. The digit is for the left handle, the letter for the right handle, and both count from zero.

Find your code

Match the code on your screen:

  1. Code 1E
    Left handle
    0
    Right handle
    4
  2. Code 2D
    Left handle
    1
    Right handle
    3
  3. Code 3B
    Left handle
    2
    Right handle
    1
  4. Code 4A
    Left handle
    3
    Right handle
    0
  5. Code 5C
    Left handle
    4
    Right handle
    2

Then the Hook Gun player pulls the chain.

Read the code letter by letter (for example “three, B”) so nobody mixes up the digit and the letter.

Common mistakes

  • Using last time's code: the code changes, and it is never the same twice in a row.
  • Counting from 1: code 1E means left 0 and right 4, not left 1 and right 5.
  • Trying the code while the missing-power screen shows. The machine has to be powered first.
