  2. Murray0:06It- It was dark. And there was something out there. I could hear it clicking - like bone on bone.
  3. 0:12And there was some meaning to it, a pattern. I didn’t understand.
  4. Bowe0:16Yes- Okay, okay...
  5. 0:18Murray! Did you complete the test!?
  6. Murray0:21We were prepping the theta splice for stabilisation.
  7. 0:24It was hard to get readings, the soil, the plants - roots grew every time we
  8. 0:29activated the machine, like iron drawn to a magnet, leaves crackling with sparks.
  9. 0:34We thought we were safe beneath the forest canopy,
  10. 0:37but our radiation badges went off, and we realised
  11. 0:40the light we were seeing by wasn’t coming from the stars...
  12. Bowe0:42Where is the splice now? Did you activate it?
  13. Murray0:45There's something out there. It went from nothing to vast in the blink of an eye!
  14. 0:50I’m not ashamed of running. Maybe if the others had run, they’d be here too...

How to find it

In the teal-carpeted office whose long window looks out onto the overgrown greenhouse (the office of Octodoc #6). The tape recorder sits on the big angled desk in the middle of the room, at the end nearest the potted palm and the orange-striped chair.

Walk up to the tape recorder (within 1.5 m) and interact with it. Its light turns yellow while the recording plays, and you can play it again as often as you like.
