I understand the urgency of the situation. Like everyone else, I have loved ones who are depending on us. But the creatures beyond the rift may be sapient. They show signs of curiosity, intelligence, playfulness. The fact that they have hurt members of our team is awful, but we would not blame the bee for stinging an invader in the hive. If we struggle to understand their sentience, who is to say that they are not struggling to comprehend ours?
