What you see
In Dahne’s Laboratory, two sets of dials have to be matched. Each set has 4 large dials and 4 small dials that turn on their own. The small dials are tiny and made for the shrunk player. The large ones are about 0.8 m above them. The puzzle needs the cartridge below in its slot first.
Cartridge
How it works
- Put the cartridge in its slot. Until then the dials do nothing. With it in, a CCTV feed shows on a screen.
- Pull a set's chain to start it. Its dials then turn on their own, one position at a time, each at its own speed (0.2 to 1 seconds per step) with a short pause.
- In set 1 each dial has 4 positions. In set 2 each dial has 8.
- Each press of the set's check button tests the next pair, first to last: the large dial and the small dial of that pair must be on the same position at that moment. Lights show how far the check has got.
- When both sets pass, the 3D Printer Grid switches on.
So one player likely watches the large dials at full size while the other watches the small dials shrunk. This comes from the size of the dials only: the game does not tie a row to a character, and either character can be the shrunk one. The check buttons stand on the lab floor.
Call out the position of your dial as it turns. Press check the moment both dials of the pair match.
Solution
Show hint
Nothing here is random, and there is no target position to find. You are timing each check so that both dials of a pair are on the same position.
Show the answerSpoiler
The answer is a timing, not a code. For each set:
- Pull the set's chain so its dials start turning.
- Watch the first pair: the first large dial and the first small dial.
- Press check at a moment when both are on the same position.
- Do the same for the second, third and fourth pair.
- Then do the same for the other set.
The game files do not show what a wrong check does, or whether the dials stop when you press check.
Common mistakes
- Looking for fixed target directions. Some guides say the targets change after a reset. In the game files nothing is random: a pair passes when its large and small dial match at the moment of the check.
- Watching the wrong pair. Each press tests the next pair, first to last, so watch the pair whose turn it is.
- Pulling the chains before the cartridge is in. The dials need it first.
