As long as the rift is open, theta particles - will travel from the alien world to our own, but in quantities too small to be useful. Stabilizing the rift will allow astronomical rates of transfer, essentially enabling us to restart our whole global infrastructure. Lights on at night, warmth in winter, children fed - the cost of this solution is worth the benefits.
